The other side of the page. Two books in print — one novel, one poetry collection — and the writing practice that quietly informs everything I do as a UX writer.
My legal name is Anoop V — short for Anoop Vijayachandran. The professional portfolio uses Anoop V. For fiction and poetry I publish as Anoop Vijayan — a name that fits a book spine. Same person. Two doors.
A novel.
My first novel — a quiet, character-led story written over several years and self-published in 2025. Available on Kindle worldwide.
People sometimes ask whether the day job and the books are at odds. They aren't. Both are about the same problem: the smallest possible number of words that still do the work.
A good error message and a good last line of a chapter are doing related things — naming what's happening, leaving the reader with somewhere to go. The discipline transfers in both directions. Fiction taught me to listen for what a sentence does, not what it says. Product writing taught me to cut anything that wasn't pulling weight.
I don't write fiction full time, and I'm not pretending to. The books exist because they had to. The portfolio exists because it should. Both names are mine.
The professional portfolio — case studies, principles, and the resume side of things.
